The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education.
ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level.
Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health.

We are seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-track assistant research professor position in Data Science in Global Health to develop data-driven and impactful research in areas of global health within our research programs.
Applications are invited from dynamic researchers with demonstrated excellence, intellectual leadership and experience in utilizing cutting-edge methods in data science, machine learning and/or Artificial Intelligence to improve health through supporting some or a combination of the following: the development of tools and methods in exposure assessment, risk estimation, health impact assessment, and disease prevention, monitoring, diagnostics, prognosis, and management.
The researcher is expected to contribute to global health research by making advanced use of complex data including climate and environmental data, multi -omics platforms, multidimensional biomarkers, imaging data, health service data, high frequency (wearable) sensor data or phenotypic information in infectious and non-communicable diseases in alignment with ISGlobal’s strategic priorities in global health.

This position will include teaching in various formats through ISGlobal Spring school at the masters and doctorate level and capacity-building and training activities in less-resourced settings.

NOTE : According to ISGlobal’s Scientific Track an Assistant Research Professor is an independent postdoctoral researcher expected to lead an emerging research group of proven scientific quality but still with a short track in their research field.
Assistant Research Professors (Assistant RP) are expected to work towards full independence, to make progress in obtaining funding to cover the research costs, to establish and lead their own research group, to make progress in supervising PhD students and to publish as leading authors.
Assistant RP are also valued for their professional and institutional service, engagement in collaboration, and for their contributions to teaching, to capacity strengthening within ISGlobal and in other institutions, and to translation.
The candidate is expected to develop a research group within one or more of our research programs and be actively involved in ISGlobal’s Health Analytics Hub, to engage in collaborations across ISGlobal research programs, to publish scholarly work and to obtain grant funding to support research.
Additionally, the researcher should teach at the masters and doctorate level and participate in advancing the strategic goals of ISGlobal in policy translation and innovation.
The post holder will adhere to ISGlobal principles contained in People management policy, including Equity, diversity and health safety.
The post holder will respect, and be accountable to ensure ISGlobal policies and procedures.
Candidates must have a PhD and a minimum of 2-3 years and maximum of 5-6 years of accredited postdoctoral experience in a discipline relevant for the post, a record of peer reviewed publications, and demonstrate potential for obtaining external research funding.
Experience in training students and early career researchers will be an asset.
The successful candidate will be periodically evaluated (every 5 years) by external international experts, according to ISGlobal's Evaluation and promotion policy.
